Meg's Baked Penne Pasta With Sausage and Garlic: Submitted by: Marguerite Martin | Date Added: 13 Sep 2011

Ingredients

5 cloves garlic, chopped
¾ pound sweet turkey Italian sausage
¼ teaspoon dried basil
2 Tablespoons butter
13 cup flour
3 cups low-fat milk
½ cup shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese
½ teaspoon salt
18 teaspoon pepper
½ penne or rigatoni pasta

Cooking Instructions

1) Preheat over to 400°F.

2) Remove casings from sausage. Cook sausage in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat until brown, stirring to crumble. Remove from pan with a slotted spoon. Place sausage in a large bowl.

3) Stir in basil. Melt butter in a large saucepan with medium heat. Lightly spoon flour into a measuring cup; level with a knife. Add the flour to melted butter stirring with a whisk. Gradually add the milk. Cook until slightly thick stirring constantly with a whisk about 10 minutes.

4) Stir in chopped garlic, cheeses, salt, and pepper. Remove mixture from heat. Add all but ¾ of a cup of cheese sauce and cooked pasta to sausage stirring to coat. Spoon pasta mixture into 9"x9" pan coated with cooking spray. Top with remaining sauce.

5) Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
